Introducing cleaner methods in urban mobility
We craft opportunities to bring hydrogen to urban communities
The transport sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for approximately 23% of global CO2 emissions, according to the International Energy Agency.
Plus, according to the European Environment Agency, road transport in urban areas accounts for around 40% of CO2 emissions from road transport in the European Union. This makes urban mobility a critical area for the adoption of clean energy technologies.
Hydrogen can play an important role in the decarbonisation of the transport sector. As such, the emergence of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles has provided a promising alternative to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.
But the opportunities for hydrogen can be much more significant. Hydrogen can be used in other applications, such as fueling buses and trucks, powering trains and providing energy for other forms of urban transport. In addition, hydrogen can play a crucial role in enabling the integration of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, into the transport sector

Hydrogen implementation
We follow the steps of the European Union
In response to the need for a transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy carrier, the European Union (EU) has defined and implemented a strategy to support and adopt hydrogen in urban mobility.

Hydrogen4Mobility, a joint initiative made out of expertise

Eurecat it is the main technology centre in Catalonia and the second largest private research organisation in southern Europe providing the business and industrial sector with differential technology and advanced knowledge to respond to the innovation needs of companies and boost their competitiveness.
Eurecat is also a booster of initiatives that promote the use of hydrogen as the main vector of energy transition. Such is the case of projects like the Hydrogen Valley or H2CAT.

EIT Urban Mobility is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Since January 2019 we have been working to encourage positive changes in the way people move around cities in order to make them more liveable places. We aim to become the largest European initiative transforming urban mobility co-funding of up to € 400 million (2020-2026) from the EIT, a body of the European Union, will help make this happen.
Our programmes support our vision of creating more liveable urban spaces by fostering innovation and transformation.
